Kit Homes on the Market in Homewood

Homewood has a nice collection of Sears houses. In fact, Sears named one of their models "The Homewood", although I have yet to find a Homewood in Homewood.

There are two kit houses currently for sale in Homewood--one from Sears Roebuck and one from Harris Brothers.

Sears Homestead, from the 1940 catalog.

According to the assessor, this Homestead was built in 1931, which would have been the first year the model was sold.

The Hancock from the 1928 Harris Homes catalog.

The Hancock (also known as No. 2012) was a very popular model from Harris Brothers. It can be found all over the Chicagoland area.

This Hancock in Homewood was built between 1922-1929. The original owners were August C. Kitterer and his wife, Lizzie. The Kitterers owned the house until at least 1936.
